REGIONAL MARKET COMMENTARY, Q3 2022

REGIONAL INFORMATION
At the end of Q3, we are continuing to see a steady trend of hiring throughout the North West, Midlands and Scotland.

Due to the increase of roles regionally, we are observing the demand for hybrid working and flexibility. In addition to this, we are seeing a requirement for higher salaries due to the increased cost of living and energy crisis currently ongoing within the UK. Salaries being offered have not yet changed to reflect the needs of candidates.

All candidates are being advised to speak to their current employer before leaving if the salary is their only motivation to reduce the number of counter offers and backouts and we highly recommend sitting down with your teams to discuss any concerns that they may have.

As we enter Q4, we are continuing to work with our clients to ensure fast and efficient processes, due to the dynamic nature of the current market. We are seeing candidates enter the market and being offered new roles within a week or two at most. Over the summer, interview processes were much longer than we have seen in previous months, but this is now reducing.

Finance
One of the most competitive spaces for top talent within finance is in the Financial Reporting and Fund Accounting space. We are seeing an increase in opportunities in this area in locations such as Manchester and Edinburgh. There is a surplus of strong and experienced candidates requiring visa sponsorship, however, clients are rarely offering this, which is potentially limiting their talent pool.
Our most recent placements have included: Financial Accountant, Transaction Reporting Specialist, and Regulatory Oversight Manager.

Risk & Compliance
Model validation and credit risk roles continue to be key hires throughout the region. Typically, we are seeing a need for individuals with more senior experience. Sanction roles are ever more desired, due to global market conditions. We have seen an increased interest in individuals looking to move into Credit Risk and Sanctions.

Recent placements have included: Graduate Credit Risk Specialist, Model Validation Analyst and Complaint Handlers.

Operations

We have seen an increased appeal for roles within Operations at Graduate Level and above.
Recent placements have included: Treasury Data Management Analyst, Customer Services Specialist, Client Processing and Corporate Actions. Hiring here is across all levels from Graduate to Senior level, throughout all regions.

Projects & Change
We are seeing a slowdown in contract work within Projects throughout the North West in favour of permanent hiring into their teams.

Candidates with regulatory expertise and/or Infrastructure experience appear to be in short supply.
