Marine Insurance Consultant – Specialist Advisory Practice

Location: London
Salary: Up to £100,000

I’m partnering with a specialist insurance advisory organisation that provides Marine focused insurance consulting services to leading financial institutions worldwide. Following internal changes and continued growth, we are seeking a Marine Insurance Consultant to join a high performing technical team.

This is a rare opportunity in a niche area of the Marine/Shipping insurance landscape — ideal for someone with strong analytical capability, Marine insurance or Marine law exposure, and the desire to advise banks, financiers, and their legal teams.

The Role

The successful candidate will work as part of an established group of consultants, supporting financial clients by reviewing insurance programmes and delivering clear, structured advice. Key responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing Owners’ and Operators’ insurance programmes and producing formal insurance adequacy reports.
  • Providing general Marine related insurance advice to bankers and their lawyers.
  • Working as part of a high-profile advisory team serving many of the world’s leading shipping financiers.
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships with a focus on professionalism and integrity.
  • Ensuring all work meets internal policy, regulatory, and financial reporting standards.

This position blends technical Marine knowledge with advisory and commercial judgement, offering exposure to both complex insurance structures and global financial stakeholders.

Candidate Background

Given the niche skills required, we are open to strong candidates from several backgrounds, including:

Highly relevant profiles:

  • Marine law specialists from established law firms
  • Marine insurance graduates or individuals with Marine focused CII/ACII qualifications
  • Former banking or finance professionals with experience in shipping, vessel finance, or shipping risk (including those from teams closed in recent years)
  • Marine insurance professionals seeking a more advisory, consulting led role

Core capabilities:

  • Solid technical understanding of Marine insurance structures.
  • Ability to produce detailed written reports and deliver clear oral advice.
  • Excellent organisational discipline, IT capability, and attention to detail.
  • Strong client service skills with a professional communication style.
  • A proactive, problem solving mindset with the ability to anticipate issues and operate independently.

This role is intentionally aimed at mid level talent — not senior market figures — ensuring the right fit for the existing team structure.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • You’ll join a globally recognised specialist advisory practice with a 25 year track record in Marine and offshore finance insurance consulting.
  • You’ll work on complex and intellectually engaging matters for major international financiers.
  • You’ll be part of a respected, collaborative team known for deep technical expertise and long standing market relationships.

Interested?

If you have relevant Marine insurance, Marine law, or shipping aligned financial experience and are exploring your next career move, I’d welcome a confidential conversation.
