Senior Healthcare Underwriter – US & International
Location: London (Hybrid – flexible home/office)
Salary: c. £85,000 – £130,000 base + bonus & benefits (DOE)

The Opportunity
An established specialty (re)insurer is seeking a technically strong, proactive underwriter to join its growing Healthcare division. The team currently manages a $50m+ portfolio focused on US Hospital Professional Liability (HPL) and international healthcare risks and is looking to diversify toward a 50/50 US–International mix over the next three years.

You’ll work alongside the Head of Healthcare to shape strategy, manage complex risks, and maintain key broker relationships in a lean, entrepreneurial environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwrite US HPL and international healthcare risks within delegated authority as well delegated business.
  • Lead technical analysis, pricing and modelling of complex accounts, including large loss datasets.
  • Build and maintain broker and client relationships through regular market meetings and international conferences.
  • Contribute to portfolio strategy as the team expands its international footprint.
  • Travel for client visits and industry events in the US and overseas (all expenses covered).

Ideal Background

  • Underwriting experience in healthcare/medical malpractice or related specialty casualty.
  • Data-driven mindset with strong Excel/pricing-model skills.
  • Self-starter who thrives in a lean team with limited day-to-day supervision.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • US healthcare market knowledge is a plus, but candidates from other specialty lines or strong technical professionals looking to move into underwriting are encouraged to apply.

Why Apply

  • Impact from day one: direct collaboration with the Head of Healthcare on a market-leading book.
  • Flexibility: total hybrid working and autonomy over travel and client engagement.
  • Competitive package: strong base salary, bonus potential and professional development support.
  • Growth potential: opportunity to shape the future of a diversified international portfolio.
