The Senior Risk Manager plays a key leadership role within the Risk & Compliance function headed by the CRO, in implementing and maintaining high risk management standards.

The role is designed to meet the following objectives:

  • To appropriately identify, analyse, evaluate and facilitate appropriate mitigation at an enterprise level including operational risks in a controlled, consistent, pragmatic manner;
  • Ensure risk management practices are in place to prevent unnecessary risk exposure, independently advise and evaluate required actions and recover from realised risks, e.g. risk events.
  • Risk is considered in all key decisions, supported by a strong risk awareness culture, to ensure that uncertainty is reduced and opportunities maximised.
  • In conjunction with the CRO, to advise and assist the business in the development / maintenance of an efficient and effective enterprise risk framework
  • Monitor and assess the adequacy and effectiveness of the firm’s controls designed to mitigate/reduce residual risk to an acceptable level (in line with the business’ risk appetite)
  • Assist or advise as appropriate in the periodic review of ICARA and regulatory capital preparation for the firm(s).
  • Assist with the maintenance and refinement of the Governance, Risk and Compliance (“GRC”) System
  • Own the Supplier Management Framework and maintain the supplier repository
  • Facilitate the annual internal controls assessment (‘AAF 01/20’) with internal audit and assist with company wide audits and reviews where necessary
  • Update and development of key risk policies and documentation including the Enterprise Risk Management Policy, Risk Appetite Framework and Key Risks 
  • Promote understanding and awareness of both operational and non-operational  risk matters.
  • Advise and assist the business to help identify new risks in line with business changes
  • Monitor outputs from Compliance and Audit reports for any impact to the firm’s risk profile

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Solid understanding of operational risk techniques and processes
  • Good understanding of investment  management activities and operations and the role and responsibilities of an AFM/AIFM.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and persuade
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to inspire confidence and create trust in teams and stakeholders

Experience and Qualifications: 

  • Up to date knowledge and at least 10 years’ experience in enterprise risk management ideally gained from investment management or financial services environment.
  • A university degree and/or relevant professional qualifications
  • Knowledge and experience within a regulatory environment
