Legal Counsel, Trust and Fiduciary Services -Jersey- Global Banking Group

Role purpose

  • Provide support on a broad range of legal issues relating to or arising out of the Trust & Fiduciary Services business within the Bank’s Wealth Management & Private Banking areas
  • To be considered as a trusted adviser to the business, by providing commercially sensitive, pragmatic, practical and strategic legal support and advice
  • Assisting in the identification of legal risks & applying appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
  • Provide support and guidance to the rest of the Legal Team as required.
  • Execute against relevant policies and procedures for the relevant area of coverage to ensure that Legal’s role in the second line of defence can be executed.
  • Regulatory: Evaluating and responding to changes in legal and regulatory requirements as they arise.

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister 1-4 years PQE from either Private Practice or Banking / Wealth Management
  • Knowledge and experience of non-contentious Jersey trusts law and practice and private client work is essential.
  •  International trusts and private client work (in particular offshore experience in jurisdictions including Guernsey, the BVI and the Cayman Islands), as well as contentious experience, will be beneficial.
  • Knowledge and experience of banking, finance and corporate law in the major jurisdictions in which the bank operates is also desirable.
  • Ability to deal with a number of stakeholders and to prioritise a demanding workload in terms of legal risk and commercial consideration.
  • Ability to keep up-to-date with key legal and regulatory developments impacting the business and to advise the business accordingly to ensure ongoing compliance.

Candidates can be already based in Jersey / Guernsey or available to relocate from the UK or other jurisdiction
