As part of our CSR policy, BRUIN offers every employee 2 days’ leave for voluntary service. Everyone is encouraged to take up the scheme and most recently, William Mardling, a Consultant on the Finance temporary and contracts team, volunteered with the charity City Gateway.
City Gateway offers pre-employment training, apprenticeships and support for disadvantaged and disengaged young people, vulnerable women and families in East London. Their early intervention programmes help individuals engage in training and get into jobs, giving hope to the young people, women and families they work with, by equipping them for the future and to play an active role in their communities.
William said of his time spent with the charity: “I spent the afternoon in Canary Wharf assisting with one of the charity’s ‘Employability’ sessions, which are designed to help develop soft skills and business skills, preparing them for progression into the workplace.
After being given a quick tour and an overview of the services that City Gateway provide, I spoke with a group of young people about the path I had taken to get to where I am today, what I had learnt upon the way, and tips for anyone looking to start a career in Financial Services. After sharing my background with them, I spoke at length about what my role entails, what BRUIN’s clients are looking for when looking at CVs and what they also look for in an interview. I then sat down with some of them individually to answer questions, go through their CVs and offer some advice as to where they could improve.”
