One in five people in front office jobs in London believes their employer 'cares less' than in 2010

06/06/2011

Around one in five people in front office jobs in London and similar positions believe that their workplace has changed in the last year and that businesses care less about their health and wellbeing.

That is according to a survey published by Simplyhealth, which said that an increase in workloads, absence management problems and greater stringency over medical appointments are part of the problem.

Furthermore, it revealed that 26 per cent of people in civil service jobs feel that their employers care less compared to 13 per cent in the private sector.

Nick Kemsley, co-director of the centre for HR excellence at the Henley Business School, said that volume of work is one of the biggest changes for people.

He added: "As structures become ever leaner, and expensive external recruitment is deferred, employees have more work to do.

"A rebalancing by employers from financial to non financial vehicles for supporting health and wellbeing could be behind this difference in views."

Ann Finnemore, a hypnotherapist and stress manager, recently advised people to keep calm and rational when faced with stress.
